Bloodshot #2
Project Rising Spirit has successfully captured the operative known as Bloodshot, but he’s not the world’s best operative for nothing and quickly makes his bloody escape.
The Team
Written by Duane Swierczynski (Point & Shoot, The Blonde, Infestation 2 Vol. 3), illustrated by Manuel Garcia (Avengers : Celestial Quest) with Arturo Lozzi & coloured by Ian Hannin. Published by Valiant Comics
The Pros
With this second issue, the story quickly becomes a game of cat & mouse between Bloodshot and the powers that be, as he becomes a Jason Bourne like wanted man on the run, except he leaves more bodies in the wake. I like the premise of a character with an identity crisis running for his life, as Bloodshot tries to cope with false memories of his friends & family. I’m definitely enjoying this 2nd issue a lot more than I did with the 1st issue. Writer Duane Swierczynski antes up the action and prepares Bloodshot for some stiff competition.
Garcia & Lozzi’s in your face drawings have shades of Mike Zeck (The Punisher : Full Circle, Deathstroke The Terminator) that really compliments the panels.
The Cons
Not sure how far you can carry on with this type of character, but if a one dimensional character like The Punisher can stand the test of time, then so can Bloodshot.
The Outcome
Not Valiant’s best title, but certainly not its worst. Now I realize they presently only have 4 titles to their name, but I’m just trying to make a point.
