Star Wars Darth Maul : Death Sentence #1

by lucstclair on July 24, 2012

Having survived being cut in half by Obi Wan (see Star Wars Episode 1 : The Phantom Menace) and mended with mechanical artificial legs, Darth Maul’s rage & hatred burns even brighter with chronic pain & a life of misery. Hiding in the shadows with his brother Savage Opress & planning his revenge, he does what the Sith have always done… he waits. But a price has been put on both him and his brother’s head, which forces these devil’s siblings too seek out the source of this hit and the force will be needed for anyone who gets in their way!

The Pros

This first issue rocks as the Star wars universe’s #1 bad-ass Sith lord returns for an epic adventure. Armed with the coolest double sided lightsabre, powerful mechanical legs & aided by a brother who’s just as nasty as he is, Darth Maul is a Jedi’s worst nightmare. Written by Tom Taylor & illustrated by Bruno Redondo with a wicked last-thing-you’ll-ever-see-is-my-face-before-I-kill-you cover by the amazing Dave Dorman. Taylor writes a pretty standard story with plenty of Star Wars thrills we’re all familiar with and glimpses of the Jedi High Council is always a treat to see. Redondo’s illustrations make Darth Maul’s features just as creepy as he was in the Phantom Menace movie.

The Cons

Not terribly high on plot, but this is what i've come to expect from a Darth Maul story.

The Outcome

Having steered away from the Star Wars comics, it’s a real treat to be reading them again and what better way than to start with a Darth Maul comic. I didn’t even know he was still alive, but then again it’s a comic, characters always come back, even in Star Wars. From Dark Horse Comics.
