Unfortunately, I can feel the series start to drag its heels about this issue, as it acts more for set up than anything else. Ellis continues to expand upon his character development and narrative and yada-yada, but ultimately we don’t really see anything happen this issue. It’s clear that aan attack is being mounted against the world’s shortest Tree, Chenglei has finally found his place in Shu, and Eligia continues in her journey to become an “anti-fascist” acolyte (of sorts).

I can tell you that Howard’s art is great, but that’s a given; the only thing that really stands out in this issue is the Arctic research facility and their involvement with the odd flowers that their Tree has been producing. Even still, more setup than development/progress occurs this issue, and to be honest characters are not even fully fleshed out this time about, as only 1-2 can be shown to “develop” in a sort of fashion.

Regardless, this has raised my expectations for the next issue, because I’m desperately expecting some answers.
