Nova #3
Writers: Ramon Perez & Jeff Loveness
Artist: Ramon Perez
Nova is easily the most underrated comic to come out of Marvel Now! Why people aren’t constantly gushing about this book is a mystery to me. Ramon Perez and Jeff Loveness have created an incredible dynamic between Richard Ryder and Sam Alexander. This mentor/mentee dynamic is the heart of the series and the reason it is such an astounding success. Rich is lost in this series and he is finding his way back to humanity through his relationship with Sam. Nova #3 throws that dynamic into a perilous confrontation in space. Perez’ art shines in this issue. He pens this issue with a fun intensity that perfectly matches his and Loveness’ writing. The action scenes’ visuals are enough to make this issue a buy but the script begins to hint at the nature of Rich’s return to life and it is very intriguing. There’s something weird going on with Richard despite how normal he is acting. Nova #3 is another total win for the most underrated book of Marvel Now!
