Thor #5

Jason Aaron has his work cut out for him. The last six months have seen a lot of changes to the Asgardian side of the Marvel Universe; Thor losing his hammer, a different person using it, and Odin's return are some of the many changes that have happened. It's understandable that Aaron took the time to dial back the excitement and set up the upcoming stories I'm eager to read.
There's a lot that happens in this issue. We see The Odinson wallowing in sadness as he starts to accept that someone else is worthy of Mjolnir while Thor fights crime over in Midgard. Meanwhile, Odin, whose pride is allowing him to lead a witch hunt against the new Thor, is contradicted by Freyja's calmness. There are some fun exchanges throughout the issue, but once again, this is all merely a set-up issue. No real fighting occurs, just a few fun exchanges between characters and Odin continuing to be a hilarious oaf.
This issue had art courtesy of Jorge Molina, and I can't say it's as good as Dauterman's, but it was good nonetheless. It reminded me a bit of Karl Kerschl's art in “Gotham Academy”, which is a good thing because that book is a work of art.
Overall, this was a satisfying issue, nothing more, nothing less. It made me anticipate the trouble that our new Thor is going to face , and it was great to see how the rest of Asgard is reacting to all the changes that have transpired in Thor's and The Odinson's worlds.
