Canada O Canada with your underground alien bases, snowy forests, and your giant changing monsters. What super hero group is the one to protect you from evil? Would it the Justice League? Would it be the Teen Titians?  No those teams have their own global problems, it would have to be a group of characters that fit with the personality of the country itself and who better than a Canadian born hero to be the lead of the strange cavalcade of characters? Justice League United is shaping up to a great team with fun and fascinating characters.

Justice League United #1 is a new series that involves many second string heroes (Martian Man Hunter, Stargirl, Green Arrow, Animal Man and Adam Strange)  from the Dc Universe. In this issue it follows up on what happened in the last issue with the team fighting a giant alien monster in the snowy land of Canada, also a fight in space between Hawkman and Lobo and the origin of Adam Strange.

What was Awesome

What I enjoyed the most is that this book is not dark.  Its light hearted and the characters don’t take themselves so seriously they are just learning how to work together and even though things get tough they can still find time to crack jokes about the situation. Another great thing about this book is the relationships, the father daughter feeling that you get from Martian Man Hunter and Stargirl is heartwarming, the banter between Animal man and Green Arrow is hilarious, and what Adam Strange and his wife are willing to do to for one another so that they can be together again even if it mean risking your life or putting on some weird alien technology really show the love that they have for one another. The story is shaping up very well and I’m very intrigued to see where it will lead to and how their adventures in space will affect the team. Mike McCone’s art really shines when it comes to the outer space parts and the action scenes,  also the bright colors really make this book pop.

The Problems
There a couple concerns I had with the book the first being that this is not a good number one issue and should really be a number two instead of one so if you’re buying this you would have to pick up the zero issue first or you would be completely lost. The second is that the art sometimes just feels generic epically when there in Canada it just looks boring to look at and maybe because the other books that Leimire has wrote have been very stylized such as Green Arrow and Animal man. It feels as if Mike Mccone is holding back and I would really like him to have more freedom with the book I think that would lead to better art. Maybe we will see that in later issues to come.

Overall

Justice League United #1 stands out from the norm with its great relationships and funny moments, with a couple of shocking scenes especially the ending. This book is just plain fun with Giant aliens, cool heroes, and touching moments, although there is more to be desired by the art this is a great start to a new series.
