Justice League/Power Rangers #3

Oh what is on tap for today? Oh no.....no....(uncontrollable sobbing) Justice League/ Power Rangers #3. Sigh. I really want to like this series. I am sure everyone involved are lovely people. I can handle subpar writing, and crayon colouring for a colour palette, but this book is committing the one sin that the comic book media shouldn't ever be, boring. We got maybe a page of actual action, and the rest of the book was the characters standing around talking about taking action. Page and pages of arguing about the solution. Then half a panel of monster fighting, and then back we go to standing around talking. That can be okay in some cases, but when you're intense confrontational scenes lead to nothing it is frustrating for the read. The book reads like an episode of Power Rangers, which would be fine, except the parts we are focusing on are the dumb comedy beats that are cringe worthy as an adult. Then there is the absurdly telegraphed Batman is going to give mad props to the Black Ranger that is probably going to happen in the last issue.
I try to stay positive with my reviews for the most part, because I know there is stuff I loved as a kid that people hated, as a fan of Golden Age comics trust me I've read some books that are manure scraped off a work boot. I enjoyed Tom Taylor's Superior Iron Man, and I felt that the series was cut off before it really got going. I just can't honestly say that I've enjoyed this book at all. It's nothing personal, just this book was DOA.
Speaking of dead on arrival, the art is so hard to look at. With the backgrounds always being a sort of dark red, it really sucks the life out of every page. Once again we get characters in odd stances, weirdly posing like they are in a kung fu movie and they are waiting to attack Bruce Lee one at a time. No points earned here.
I keep hoping that this book will end strongly, or at least one issue with get a passing grade from me, but that hope is dying a slow agonizing death with each turn of the page. I want it to be good, I want to see the Justice League fighting giant monsters along side the Megazord. What I don't want is to read about the Flash, Superman and Wonder Woman chat with teenagers. No thank you.
