The Super Sons are back! I just hope that everyone who complained after the cancellation of the first series will come back and pick this book up, otherwise they’ll just look like a bunch of children who don’t like change.
When this series exactly takes place is a bit of a mind-numbing thought process. According to Pete Tomasi, this takes place right before the Man of Steel series from a couple months back. That’s a fine explanation, but in this issue Jon makes a reference to something that took place during the events of the miniseries so I’m officially confused.
This was a very fun issue. The heart and soul of this series has always been the dynamics between Jon and Damian. They’re such polar opposites and watching them interact is always a treat. While the overall plot that they find themselves in isn’t always the most interesting or compelling, the dialogue allows me to mostly look past it.
Carlo Barberi, who jumped in near the end of the last series, is drawing this book and it looks fantastic. He’s no Jorge Jimenez, but his rendition of the characters is fun and his character designs for some of the villains we see near the end of the book are pretty nice.
As you can see, there just isn’t much to say about the issue. It’s fun and the characters sound great, the art is fantastic, but the overall plot needs a few more issues to really win me over. Anyone who was a fan of the last book should jump on.
