The Superior Foes of Spider-Man #15

Things can never go well for Herman, can they? Superior Foes continues it's superior run (get it? because it's in the title?) following up on last month's climactic moment as the get gets back together (sort of). I don't know why I expected things to turn out differently for my favorite lovable loser on the team, but unfortunately we found him in yet another hysterical, but also very sad moment. I'm really hoping that Shocker gets some kind of big win by the end of this series, but I should stop hoping for that shouldn't I?

Now that all of the characters have been fleshed out it's sort of heartbreaking, but not really unexpected to see the way this issue ends. Normally, in group books I find myself rooting for the whole team to succeed, but I've pretty much given up hope on that so now I'm picking favorites. Nick Spencer has definitely done something special here by making me care about these D-rate Spider-Man villains.

Steve Lieber on the other hand has now delievered several full page panels of Shocker that I really must have framed in a room that I'll dedicate to Shocker. Honestly, I can't get enough of his art. It's a perfect pop sensibility that fits the humor and depth of the story.

It's sad that this series is coming to an end in two issues. What could have been a shlocky piece of crap, turned out to be a schlocky masterpiece.
