Flash S03E14 - Attack on Central City

Jesse Quick, The Flash, Kid Flash
I’m a little late with this review, but still in time for you to refresh your memory before the upcoming episode. So, what happened in the Central City last week?

Probably the best thing we could see was both of our Wells interacting. It was so much fun watching these two guys bickering. Their personalities clash in a funny way when one despises the other for being a moron and the second one just … does his thing anyways. On top of that, serious Wells from Earth-2 interacting with Wally was just great.

We will stay with characters for a bit more because Wally and Jesse decided to move in their relationship which is fine, at least we won’t be stuck with two people who like each other and they are reluctant about committing themselves. This leads to these two seeking blessing with Jesse’s father.

We also saw Gypsy again. She interacts with the team and Cisco specifically. I am not opposed to them seeking each other and maybe in time building some kind of relationship, but Cisco was just acting super weird this whole episode when it came to Gypsy. It was almost like having two characters packed into one. Our regular fun Cisco who tries to help the team and on the other hand we see this awkwardly cocky Cisco, that is just so convinced that he has a chance with Gypsy. Combine this with the fact that this episode already contained one relationship plotline and we have just a weak overall theme.

The thing I like in concept in this episode was that Barry was so desperate to defeat Grodd that he thought about solving this problem permanently. This, in my opinion, really humanized him. He always stands for justice and tries to do the right thing but even he has darker thoughts. But as it is usual lately, the execution was a bit less than we desired. Instead of Barry conquering his inner demons he is told a couple of times that he can do better and he does. This need to have everything explained by other characters is starting to show in the quality of the material that we are being shown and I just hope that they can find their way to the way that thigs were in the past.

And finally, we arrive at the finale that should have been epic. Three speedsters versus the army of gorillas turned into 3 speedsters being defeated in a blink of an eye without doing anything. I realize that CGI costs money and that super speed is really hard power to write for, but lately, this is getting ridiculous. They could have taken a dozen other approaches towards the fights yet they go with this one. I won’t lie and say that I wasn’t disappointed. This makes two weeks in a row and basically this whole arc.

As a whole I consider this episode to be one of the worse that we got to see this season. Seeing Cisco as a douchy wannabe badass was horrible, the final fight was extremely weak and on top of that, we are the state that everybody is dating everybody. But we still got some fun parts in the form of interactions between two Wells and that was kind of worth it.
