Justice League Dark #24 Review
Art by: Amancay Nahuelpan

Publisher: DC Comics
Justice League Dark #24 is as close to a “slow burn” as one would expect from this series; in that, even though this issue takes it time to set the stage, the tension is through the roof! This issue promises an arc that’s sure to put the Justice League Dark through their greatest crisis yet.
This chapter marks the beginning of the Justice League Dark's descent into the Other Place. We find the team preparing themselves for the inevitable battle, divided and each pondering their own approach. They may be formidable heroes, but the Team Dark must come together if there’s any hope of destroying the Upside Down Man.
I love Ram V’s framing to this story, kicking off this issue with a flash forward of what’s to come worked to create tension behind the hopeful moments. The story’s pace is methodical, setting the members for their roles in this adventure. Ram V handles the team well, but utilizes Detective Chimp as the perspective for this story, a fine choice because who doesn’t love Bobo and because he’s such a guiding force for the Justice League Dark, him coming to Diana makes for a nice callback to their interactions earlier in the series.
June Chung is without a doubt the star of this issue. That first page is sure to entrance you with the heat and vibrancy of Chung’s colors on Nahuelpan’s splash page. And the details of Nahuelpan’s backgrounds are just incredible! From the get-go the issue appreciates the finer details of each panel and by no means does the team let up. Have I mentioned Rob Leigh’s fantastic lettering this issue? Cause it’s such a treat. Each character is so distinct, and the dialogue boxes and bubbles keep an even pace and there’s no resistance when changing characters. Zatanna’s speech bubbles might be my favorite though, love the way they’re designed and the inflection it adds to the way I read her.
This issue serves as a great start for the Justice League Dark’s traverse through the Other Place and their inevitable face off with the Upside Down Man.
