SWAMP THING #14

by BRONKO on November 10, 2012

After a year of being trapped in the Rotworld with Animal Man, Alec Holland finds the world in ruins. The Rot has nearly overtaken the Earth, leaving small pockets of resistance. Swamp thing, along with Ivy and Deadman, protect the Parliament from a Rot attack and plan their next move.

This book is on par with the rest of an already excellent series, probably my favorite of the New 52. Snyder keeps delivering on the formidable task of revamping an icon created by Len Wein and tenderized to perfection by Alan Moore. In addition, Yanick Paquette keeps popping out stellar art to back up those pretty words.

In this fourteenth installment, it seems like a reluctant Alec Holland has finally accepted his destiny as champion of the Green. This makes the trees happy. I think Ivy has a big crush on Big Green too, but we all know his heart belongs to another. Sorry Ivy.

Leaving Ivy with the Parliament, Alec and Boston take off via a beautifully handcrafted leaf boat towards Gotham City in pursuit of a weapon to defeat the Rot. Boston knows a guy. Alec says something about a quiet cruise about one panel before a full on attack from Rot team. Things are heating up in this swampy adventure and I will keep riding along with it. I’d say this is a heavy-handed must read. Seriously, go get it.
