Action Comics #1008

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Steve Epting
Colorist: Brad Anderson
Publisher: DC Comics

So far I have been really enjoying Bendis’s run on Action Comics. The book doesn’t only just focus on mystery or the wider Superman cast but it also has constant superstar artists that really capture Superman and Metropolis perfectly. Bendis’s Superman books are leading to this event called Leviathan Rising, which should be interesting if it keeps up the quality of Action Comics.

Whilst I wasn’t a huge fan of the first issue of Leviathan Rising, Bendis completely turns the arc around with a story that focuses mainly on Amanda Waller and Jimmy Olsen. The issue is beautifully penciled by Steve Epting, and the colours by Brad Anderson caused me to pause and take in how great the issue looked.

There is someone or some force that is going around and destroying intelligence agencies and members of said agencies. The hint in this issue implies that it is Leviathan but we do not get to see what is destroying them, and the only hint the art gives is a blue Dr Manhattan kind of light. The issue pairs up Amanda Waller with Sam Lane as they meet to discuss the future of the government intelligence agencies. Sam Lane seems to have a different outlook to life after what Lois told him.

Whilst I mentioned Jimmy Olsen before as one of the main focuses of the issue, the issue seems to set up the Jimmy Olsen series that is being written by Matt Fraction. Jimmy seems to be keeping up with what is happening behind the scenes and may be the only one who really knows what is going on.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed this issue and I personally think it was one of the best issues of the series so far. The mystery of Leviathan is ramping up and so far Bendis has us intrigued.
