The Green Lantern #3

Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Liam Sharp
Colourist: Steve Oliff
Publisher: DC Comics

We are now 3 issues in Grant Morrison’s run on The Green Lantern and Morrison definitely embraces the space cop idea. 3 issues in and I don’t really know what to make of it. I felt issue 1 was alright but enjoyed issue 2. It reads like a Grant Morrison book and this issue encapsulates this as he poses Green Lantern against what is essentially God.

The book opens with an auction going on but instead of it being just valuable possessions, planets are being sold. The Green Lanterns arrive and shut it down and Hal Jordan attempts to recover the planet from the God figure. However God is a bit different in that he consumes planets.

This story idea is an interesting one as Grant Morrison also shows how the people on earth react to this. Often Green Lantern writer’s like to just explore the space aspect and forget about the earth and separate the green lanterns from their life on earth.

Liam Sharp’s art is amazing in this issue as the detailed backgrounds make space seem empty and full at the same time. The pairing of Morrison and Sharp is really making The Green Lantern a must read.
