OTTAWA COMICCON HITS NEW RECORD NUMBERS FOR ITS THIRD EDITION 


May 12, 2014 – With the third edition being held at EY Centre from May 9 to 11, Ottawa Comiccon continued its ascent, attracting over 38,000 visitors – an increase of 8,000 over the 2013 edition.  
 
Over the three days, fans got to meet a myriad of international celebrities, including Karl Urban(Star Trek), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), Ray Park (Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace), Edward James Olmos, (Battlestar Galactica), Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, (Stargate SG-1), Robert Englund,(Nightmare on Elm Street), Bruce Campbell (Army of Darkness), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13thfilms), Charisma Carpenter (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Pat Mastroianni (Degrassi), Summer Glau (Firefly) and many others.
 
Comic book creators were well represented, including special guests Neal Adams (Batman),Bob Layton (Iron Man), Tony Moore (co-creator of The Walking Dead), Glenn Fabry (Preacher),Simon Bisley (Judge Dredd) and Nick Bradshaw (Guardians of the Galaxy), to name but a few.
 
The 2014 edition also brought an upsurge of over 100 activities including celebrity Q&As, panels, workshops, comedy, games shows, speed dating, autograph sessions, photo ops, a Filk concert and the masquerade. One of the weekend highlights, forever cemented in fans’ minds, was during the Leonard Nimoy Skype event, in which Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy from 2009’s Star Trek) asked a surprise question to Mr. Nimoy on whom his favourite character was in the new Star Trek films.
 
Always a hit with fans, the Capital City Garrison of the 501st Legion kept so many fans entertained with their love of Star Wars and managed to raise over $12,000 for Make-A-Wish, thanks to the incredible generosity of so many.
