In honour of The Dark Knight Rises opening this week, I thought I’d put together a top 10 list of my favourite Batman stories. Here they are in no particular order, feel free to comment or make your own list.

Batman : Arkham Asylum : Written by Grant Morrison & illustrated by Dave McKean. One of Morrison’s best Batman stories, set in the famous asylum with a multitude of Batman villains and a look at their complex profiles. McKean’s mesmerising illustrations are just breathtaking, every time I read it, I find something new. A true classic.

Batman : The Killing Joke : Written by Alan Moore & illustrated by Brian Bolland. Probably my all time favourite Batman story. Click here for my complete review.

Batman : Venom : Written by Dennis O’Neil & illustrated by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. The story that introduces the wonder drug Venom that flows through Bane’s veins. An unforgettable story that has the caped crusader battling a villain that has no form… addiction.

Batman : The Dark Knight Returns : Written & drawn by Frank Miller. What can be said about this superb book that hasn’t already been said. For more details check out Stephen’s awesome review right here.

Batman : Year One : Written by Frank Miller & illustrated by David Mazzucchelli. Batman’s first year as Gotham’s champion and the corrupt cops from the GCPD, except for Jim Gordon who cannot be bought. This is as much a Batman story as it is a Jim Gordon story. Great stuff.

Batman : Earth One : Written by Geoff Johns & illustrated by Gary Frank. A re-imaganing of the classic Batman : Year One story. This incredible book has been released recently and is a must for any Batman freak. Click here for my complete review.

Batman : The Long Halloween : Written by Jeph Loeb & pencilled by the stunning style of Tim Sale. Keeping with the flow of Batman : Year One stories, this amazing book’s timeline takes place in a whole year from one Halloween to another and involves a plethora of Batman baddies. It’s also a murder mystery.

Batman : The Black Mirror : Written by Scott Snyder & illustrated by Jock & Francesco Francavilla. Snyder’s run on Detective Comics is simply one the best I’ve ever read. Featuring Dick Grayson as Batman. Click here for my complete review.

Batman : Hush : Written by Jeph Loeb & illustrated by Jim Lee. A beaufitul book featuring one of the industry’s favourite fanboy artist. A story about Bruce Wayne’s past secrets that is must read.

Batman : Year 100 : Written & drawn by Paul Pope. Here’s a fantastically underrated book that I absolutely adore. A gritty look at a Batman from a different angle.
